Tenor will help LinkedIn members visually express their mood & personality in 1:1 conversations

LinkedIn is making it easier — and more fun! — to create genuine connections with professional contacts such as coworkers, past colleagues or fellow alumni. Starting this week, Tenor will be exclusively powering GIF search within LinkedIn Messaging to help professionals build stronger relationships by communicating in a more visual and expressive way. In addition to being able to search for GIFs, LinkedIn members will have access to trending GIFs from Tenor, and in the near future, a custom trending stream featuring GIFs used most often on the professional network.

Messages sent on LinkedIn have grown 60% in the past year. As messaging continues to grow both in and outside of the professional realm, tools for communicating the nuance and emotion typically found in face-to-face conversations are becoming more important. GIFs, combined with Tenor’s deep understanding of how people use GIFs to express how they are feeling, are increasingly filling that need. Tenor research has found that 7 in 10 US adults today use visual expressions like GIFs.

Tenor GIF search will be available via a GIF button located in the message compose field within the messenger. LinkedIn’s GIF search uses Tenor’s GIF API to deliver relevant results extending from Tenor’s proprietary Emotional Graph, which maps the relationships between more than four billion distinct terms to GIFs that people choose most often to express their feelings.
