Tenor, the largest and fastest-growing GIF search engine, has been selected by Samsung as its preferred GIF partner for the newly launched Samsung Messages experience. Samsung users will be able to search for & share GIFs via Tenor in the “Messages” application to help add important context & emotion to messaging conversations.

The first stage of the new Samsung experience will begin within Galaxy S9 and S9+. Tenor GIF search can be accessed with one tap from the application interface.

With the addition of Samsung Messages, Tenor is extending its leadership into the next generation of mobile messaging. Tenor receives more than 400 million GIF searches every day, and currently powers GIF search within Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, iMessage, Kik and hundreds more.

As one of the top 10 apps being used on Samsung smartphones today, the “Messages” app is designed to help users enjoy a rich, visually expressive messaging experience. As GIFs are one of the fastest-growing areas of messaging and visual communication, Tenor’s GIF search will be a centerpiece of messaging for Samsung users.

Tenor’s machine learning-powered emotional search engine is built around the Tenor Emotional Graph, which maps common search terms to GIFs that capture every sentiment, as well as the relationships between each emotion. For example, based on the habits of people searching for GIFs on Tenor, “happy” is more closely related to “thumbs up” and “lol” than it is to “love” or “excited”.

The Emotional Graph maps more than five billion distinct human feelings and reactions, and evolves every day in response to news, memes, culture. It is due to this deep understanding of human emotion that Tenor is able to surface the right GIF at the right moment for anyone searching for a GIF on Tenor.

David McIntosh, CEO of Tenor says, “Visual messaging is growing exponentially, and with the native Tenor integration Samsung users will be able to better express exactly what they are thinking or feeling with GIFs. Tenor receives more than 400 Million searches per day, and Tenor’s search engine continuously and intelligently learns how to help Samsung users find the perfect GIF.”
